Bhandardara is the single best trekking base in Maharashtra: the state's highest peak, its most storied plateau fort and a lake-side hill fort all sit within an hour's drive of the same reservoir. This three-day circuit strings them together in the order that manages fatigue best.
Drive to Bari village (about 1 hr from Bhandardara) and start by 6 am. The 6 km route to the 1,646 m summit uses four iron ladder sections and takes 3–4 hrs up, 2 hrs down. Back at the lake by mid-afternoon for the Randha Falls and Wilson Dam viewpoints.
Base at Ratanwadi, reachable by road around the reservoir or by boat across it in season. Visit the 9th-century Amruteshwar temple first, then climb 4–5 km with ladders near the top to the Nedhe (the natural eye in the rock) and the Konkan-facing bastions. Overnight in a Ratanwadi homestay or tent.
The longest day of the circuit. Take the Pachnai route (gentlest, 3 hrs) or Khireshwar via Tolar Khind for a tougher line. Priorities on the plateau: Konkan Kada's amphitheatre cliff, the Kedareshwar cave with its waist-deep water and monolithic Shiva lingam, and the Harishchandreshwar temple. Sunset from Taramati if you are staying a second night.
Budget roughly ₹4,000–6,000 per person for three days including shared transport, homestays and meals. Carry three litres of water per day, a headlamp for the ladder sections and warm layers — winter nights at Bhandardara drop close to 8°C.
