A Sanctuary of Saints and Strategic Importance

Constructed by the Bahamani rulers between 1347 and 1527, Sajjangad witnessed control by the Adilshahi dynasty before being captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on April 2, 1673. Recognizing its strategic location and spiritual potential, Shivaji Maharaj invited Samarth Ramdas to reside here.

From 1676 until his Samadhi in 1681, Saint Ramdas made Sajjangad his abode, transforming it into a vibrant center for religious and philosophical teachings. He composed significant works like 'Dasbodh' here, which continue to guide many even today.

The fort briefly fell to the Mughals in 1700, who renamed it Navrous Tara, but the Marathas swiftly reclaimed it in 1709. It remained under Maratha rule until the British annexation in 1818, solidifying its place in history as both a military stronghold and a spiritual haven.
