किल्ल्यांचा राजा — स्वराज्याची पहिली राजधानी

Rajgad, meaning 'King of Forts', served as the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Hindavi Swarajya for 26 years. Perched at 1376 meters in the Sahyadri range, it is a testament to Maratha pride and architectural brilliance. The fort features three Machis (Padmavati, Suvela, Sanjivani) and the Balekilla, offering panoramic views and a rich historical experience.

Rajgad: The First Capital of Swarajya

Captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1647, the fort was strategically fortified and became the primary residence and administrative hub of the Maratha kingdom.

Many significant events unfolded here, including the birth of Rajaram I and the demise of Queen Saibai. It was also the fort where Shivaji Maharaj planned numerous military campaigns and safeguarded the wealth from Surat.

Despite facing relentless attacks, Rajgad remained unconquered — a testament to its impenetrable defenses and strategic importance before the capital was moved to Raigad in 1674.

Strategic Importance

Rajgad's unique architecture, with its three Machis and central Balekilla, made it logistically impossible for enemies to besiege effectively.
